What does LiftEdge actually do?

LiftEdge assesses forklift and materials handling equipment (MHE) operators in real workplace environments to verify competence. Training is only delivered when an assessment identifies a genuine need. This ensures operators remain safe, capable, and confident long after initial certification.

Are you a forklift training school?

No. LiftEdge is not a training centre. We are a competence assessment specialist.
Training is available, but only as a targeted intervention following assessment.

Why do operators need reassessment if they already have certificates?

Certificates confirm that an operator attended training on a specific date. They do not guarantee long‑term competence.
Skill fade, bad habits, workplace pressure, and changes in equipment can all affect performance. Reassessment helps identify issues early and maintain safety standards.

Where does the assessment take place?

All assessments are carried out on your site, using your equipment and your real working environment. This provides an accurate picture of how operators perform during day‑to‑day tasks.

What equipment can you assess?

LiftEdge has operational experience with a wide range of equipment, including:

  • counterbalance forklifts (light, medium, heavy duty)

  • reach trucks

  • order pickers

  • electric pallet trucks

  • telehandlers

  • reachstackers

  • empty container handlers

This ensures assessments are grounded in real operational understanding.

What qualifications do you hold?

LiftEdge is led by a qualified instructor and workplace assessor with:

  • RTITB Registered MHE Instructor status

  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (EAL/Ofqual)

  • IOSH Managing Safely

  • Risk assessment, COSHH, and environmental awareness training

  • 30+ years of operational experience in safety‑critical environments

How long does an assessment take?

Assessment duration varies depending on:

  • the number of operators

  • the type of equipment

  • the complexity of the workplace

  • the tasks being performed

Most individual assessments take between 3-6 hours.

Do operators need to prepare for the assessment?

No special preparation is required. Operators simply carry out their normal tasks. The goal is to observe genuine, everyday performance—not staged or rehearsed activity.

What happens if an operator fails the assessment?

If an operator does not meet the required standard, LiftEdge provides:

  • clear feedback

  • identified risks

  • recommended improvements

  • targeted training options

The aim is to correct issues quickly and safely.

Do you offer refresher training?

Yes. Refresher training is available when an assessment identifies skill fade or when operators are due for a routine refresher (typically every 3–5 years).

Do you offer remedial or corrective training?

Yes. Corrective training is provided for operators who show unsafe habits, poor technique, or performance concerns. This is often used after incidents or poor assessment results.

Do you offer conversion or familiarisation training?

Yes. LiftEdge provides:

  • conversion training for operators moving to new truck types

  • familiarisation training for new equipment, attachments, or workplace layouts

What types of businesses do you work with?

LiftEdge supports businesses that rely on safe forklift and plant operation, including:

  • warehouses

  • builders merchants

  • manufacturing

  • engineering

  • agriculture

  • distribution centres

Most clients have 3–20 operators and benefit from proactive reassessment.

How do we book an assessment?

You can request an assessment or arrange a consultation through the contact page. LiftEdge will discuss your workplace, operator numbers, and equipment to plan the assessment effectively.
